We study chemical and electrical signaling in sensory organelles called cilia.   Our goal is to describe how an external chemical stimulus is transduced into an electrical signal in the membrane of the cilium.

Using electrophysiology, molecular biology, and immunocytochemistry, we study signal transduction by primary cilia of cultured cells derived from mouse kidney.

We have also investigated the mechanism of odor transduction in olfactory cilia of the Northern grass frog.
